Database Engineering

PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MySQL databases built to scale, query fast, and stay reliable

Your database is where your business actually lives. We design, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL databases that stay fast under load, protect your data, and don't fall over at the worst possible moment. PostgreSQL is our default for new builds — including serverless Postgres on Neon, which we run in production across our own projects — but we work across all three. From greenfield schema design to rescuing a slow production database, we handle the data layer so the rest of your stack can trust it.

What You Get

How we approach it

Schema Design & Normalization

Properly normalized schemas with the right indexes, keys, and constraints. We design data models that stay clean as your application grows instead of collapsing under their own weight.

Query & Performance Tuning

Slow reports and timeouts usually trace to a handful of bad queries and missing indexes. We profile the real workload, rewrite the offenders, and add the indexes that actually move the needle.

PostgreSQL Development

Our default for new builds. Postgres schema design, advanced queries, JSON/JSONB, extensions, and serverless Postgres on Neon — the reliable, open-source database we run in production across our own projects.

Microsoft SQL Server Development

Custom MSSQL development — stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and T-SQL that's readable and maintainable. Built for correctness first, speed second, and both in the end.

MySQL Development

Production MySQL work: schema, queries, replication, and tuning for web apps that need a fast, cost-effective open-source database without surprises.

Database Migration

Migrate between PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and MySQL, upgrade major versions, or move on-prem databases to the cloud (Neon, AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL). We plan for zero-surprise cutovers with rollback paths.

Database Automation

Automated backups, ETL pipelines, scheduled jobs, and reporting exports. We turn manual, error-prone database chores into reliable, monitored automation.

FAQ

Common questions

PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or MySQL — which should I use?

For most new applications we default to PostgreSQL — it's open-source, free, standards-compliant, and handles everything from simple apps to advanced JSON, geospatial, and analytical workloads. MySQL is a fine, familiar choice for straightforward web apps. Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) earns its license cost when you need deep Microsoft-stack integration, advanced T-SQL, or have existing MSSQL investment. We help you pick based on your workload, budget, and team — not dogma.

Do you build on PostgreSQL and Neon?

Yes — Postgres is what we run in production across our own projects, including serverless Postgres on Neon. We handle schema design, query optimization, migrations, JSON/JSONB, and extension work, whether it's a fresh build or improving an existing Postgres database.

Can you speed up our slow database?

Almost always. Most performance problems come from missing indexes, inefficient queries, and schema issues rather than needing bigger hardware. We profile your actual workload, fix the worst offenders first, and give you a measurable before/after.

Do you offer custom Microsoft SQL Server development?

Yes. We build and maintain MSSQL databases end to end — schema design, stored procedures, T-SQL, migrations, and performance tuning — as a standalone service or as the data layer behind a web app we build.

Can you migrate our database to the cloud?

Yes. We migrate PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and MySQL databases to managed cloud services like Neon, AWS RDS, Aurora, and Azure SQL, with a tested cutover plan and rollback path so the business keeps running.

What does database engineering cost?

A focused performance audit and tuning engagement starts around $1,500. Larger schema design, migration, and automation projects are scoped after we review your current setup. We quote fixed prices so you know the cost up front.
