The honest stuff
Do I own the code?
No — Express is a rental model, like Squarespace, Wix, or your phone plan. You pay a monthly fee and we handle everything. When you stop paying, the site goes offline within 7 days. If you want to own your codebase, that's our custom build path — typically $5,500+ as a one-time project. Most Express customers prefer this trade because they want a website, not a codebase.
What happens to my domain if I cancel?
Your domain is yours — we never own or transfer it. You buy and renew it through Cloudflare, GoDaddy, or wherever you prefer. We just point it at our hosting. If you cancel Express, we unpoint it and the domain stays in your account. No domain ransom, ever.
What about my content — photos, copy, business info?
Yours, always. On request we'll export everything you supplied (photos, original copy, branding) within 7 days of cancellation. The thing you don't get is the site code — that's the part we built, host, and continue to maintain on Express plans.
Can I upgrade to a custom build later?
Yes. If you outgrow Express, you can migrate to a custom build with us. We credit 25% of your last 12 months of Express payments toward the project, capped at $75/month — so a year on Express Local maxes out at a $900 starting credit, a year on Express Starter at $597. We'll rebuild the site on a stack you own from day one.
How fast is launch?
First draft within 2-3 business days of receiving your business info and content. Launch on your domain typically 3-5 days from the kickoff email. Smaller projects (single-page Starter) often launch faster.
How does the $99 deposit work?
$99 reserves your build slot and gets us started on the work. When your site goes live, the $99 is credited toward your first month of service — so the first month of Express Starter nets to $100 ($199 - $99) and the first month of Express Local nets to $300 ($399 - $99). If after two rounds of revisions you don't want to launch, we refund the deposit in full. We'd rather have a clean 'no' than a frustrated 'yes' — but in practice almost nobody walks, because we got you to a working draft you helped shape.
How many revisions do I get?
Two free rounds before launch (most businesses use one and a half). After launch, content edits are included monthly: up to 1 hour on Starter, 3 hours on Local. Bigger structural changes (new sections, new pages, redesigns) are billed hourly or as a small project.
Why is this cheaper than your custom builds?
Express uses a small set of pre-built layouts that we can deploy and customize fast. Custom builds are designed and engineered from scratch for your exact use case — different problem, different price point. Express isn't worse work, it's the same shop's lower-friction option for businesses that don't need a custom-built platform.
Is there a contract?
Month-to-month after the first 90 days. The first 90 days are committed — that's how we recoup the build cost on a no-setup-fee model. After that you can cancel anytime with 7 days' notice.
