How We Built Sweeten Insurance’s Site to Convert Quote Requests

By James Ramsey·July 27, 2026·6 min read

Sweeten Insurance Solutions is an independent agency in Lapeer, Michigan with 37+ carriers across personal and commercial lines. The brief was deceptively simple: build a site that turns local search traffic into actual quote requests, without making the agent’s phone ring with unqualified leads.

Here’s how we structured it. Live site case study here.

The structural problem

Independent agencies sit in a tricky spot. They’re competing with two things at once:

  • Direct writers (GEICO, Progressive, State Farm) with massive ad budgets and one-click quote engines
  • Other local agencies with similar carrier panels who all look interchangeable on the surface

The site has to do two things the direct writers can’t: communicate the breadth of carrier options (37+ vs. one) and signal that you’re going to give actual advice instead of running a chatbot script.

Decision 1: Lead with carrier count, not promises

“37+ carriers” on the homepage is concrete. “Insurance built around you” is generic. We led with the concrete number because the prospect’s real question is “will this agent shop my coverage to actually find the best price” — and 37+ is the proof.

Decision 2: Industry pages for commercial

Commercial insurance is where independent agencies make their highest-margin business, and it’s where SEO matters most. We built dedicated pages for:

  • Contractors
  • Restaurants
  • Manufacturers

Each one ranks separately for “[industry] insurance Michigan” type queries. Each one speaks to the specific risks of that industry instead of being a generic commercial page.

Decision 3: Personal lines as an organized matrix

Auto, home, motorcycle, life, umbrella, boat. Each gets its own card on the homepage with one-paragraph framing. The visitor self-selects what they need rather than being forced through a generic “quote” flow.

Decision 4: The quote routing

The quote form captures enough to route to the right carrier panel without being so long that it kills conversion. Five fields visible, expanded fields for specific lines. The form output goes directly to the agent, not into a CRM that doesn’t get checked.

Decision 5: Local-first SEO

  • Hero copy mentions Lapeer explicitly
  • Service-area references throughout for surrounding towns
  • Schema.org InsuranceAgency markup
  • Carrier logos as trust signals (with permission)
  • Real photos of the agent and the office

What we deliberately skipped

  • A live chatbot. Insurance buyers want to talk to a real human. The chat widget signals “you’re going to deal with a script.”
  • An instant-quote engine. Independent agency value is in the agent shopping the panel, not a one-screen quote.
  • Hero animations. Insurance customers are skeptical-by-default. Snappy animations read as “sales-y.”

What this kind of site costs to build

Sweeten was a custom build — multiple industry pages, carrier matrix, quote routing, schema markup — not an Express-template site. Custom builds start at $5,500.

For agencies that don’t need the full carrier-matrix complexity, Coderize Express at $199-$399/month covers a clean single-page-feel agency site with quote intake.
